Toward a Peaceable World
As we await the results of our general election, Voix de Femmes wishes to transport you to a more harmonious, more tranquil, and more peaceable world, complete with just the right amount of light-hearted fun!
The concert will begin with 'African Celebration', by Stephen Hatfield, a compilation of songs from South Africa, including 'O Freedom'. From Africa, we will travel to Spain with 'La Lluvia' (the rain), also composed by Steven Hatfield. The concert will continue its focus on Nature, with selections by Gustav Holst ('Hymn to the Waters' and 'Hymn to the Dawn'); several selections about roses (from Baroque composer Henry Purcell to Morten Lauridsen, Bette Midler and Edith Piaf). The concert will end with the 'Alley Cat Love Song', by Paul Carey, a touch of silliness on this rather serious day!
With Suzanne Karpov, Soprano
Grace Cho, accompanist

Through the centuries, it hasn’t been easy for even the most talented women composers to be recognized and published in a world dominated by men. Voix de Femmes, with soprano Brooke Evers and pianist Grace Cho, presents an all women program: music written by women composers, for women voices, starting with the extraordinary Hildegarde Von Bingen.
For this special concert honoring women composers, Voix de Femmes is very proud to premiere a newly commissioned work written for the ensemble by Oregon composer Lana Walter, titled: We Rise. It is written for women voices and percussion. Don't miss being part of history and honoring the contribution of women to the world of music!
